On Horror Fashion

Within the first set of Fatally Yours songs I envisioned a story that would be told by a different character through each song.  Some strayed a bit from that initial approach, but the meat of it is still intact, especially with the latest installment, "Horror Fashion."

This song is told through the cold and evil eyes of the murderer.  It is descriptive and in your face.  Placing myself in that light was not as easy as putting myself in "the lovers" mind as heard within "Exit Sign" and "Every Moment, possibly because that is "the place" I'm in these days.  When I perform this song live, I feel the heavy darkness and madness I'd channeled when I had written it.  It is a pretty neat and consuming feeling.  I myself have always been drawn to the darker side of life and art.  It seemed that all of my favorite artists also channeled their creativity from a darker place (like Danzig, Alkaline Trio, Johnny Cash, and the tons of Metal bands, with their menacing lyrics and dark textures displayed through minor keys and the art of melodic dissonance).

I remember as a young child growing up in a "Born again" household, going to this coffee house type setting where my family would worship.  I remember seeing people "slain in the spirit" (passing out from the power of healing through Jesus), the "speaking of tongues" (a language that comes out uncontrollably through the presence of Jesus... or something).  As a young child (probably 6 or 7 years old) it scared the fuck out of me.  I remember how scared I would be waking up in the middle of the night and running to my parents room to make sure Jesus didn't take them in the Rapture.

Scarred?  Yes.  That could be why I totally went the other route.  Either way, this will not be the only song from a dark lyrical place because I have unlimited things to say about religion and way it made/makes me feel.  Coming back to the song, it demonstrates how the killer baited his pray and got what he wanted.  The lyrics in the choruses change every time around giving you insight from every angle of this situation.  Enjoy the track, it is one of my favorites to play live!!
